I Want To Learn The Guitar (electric). Should I Go Acoustic First?

By admin Posted in: software

I have absolutely no background with the guitar but I could have lessons for the electric right away. However, my classmates are telling me to start with acoustic because “acoustic has harder strings and electric has softer. It’ll be hard to adjust to acoustic if you learn electric first.”
Of course, I don’t really have any intention to learn acoustic but “you need to play the acoustic sometimes to make songs” or so they say. I said I don’t have enough imagination to make my own song, but it’s not an entirey impossible concept so I’m considering it.
So… now what?

electric and acoustic guitars are just the same, but i would definitely go with practicing the acoustic guitar first. :)

There is no reason why you should learn acoustic first, especially when you have no interest in it.
If you want to learn electric, learn electric. Then further down the line, if you want to learn acoustic, don’t worry, it doesn’t make it any more difficult because of the softness of the strings.
    Sometimes people confuse me.

I would say that you should try to learn acoustic first. Once you have learned, then you need to try to learn to play the hardest songs there are for guitars, before you try to learn how to play anyother guitar…..electric or steel. Once, you can play the song entitled, “El Paso” just like Marty Robbins can and the song, “Dueling Banjos”, on the acoustic guitar, then you will truly be another superior guitar player.

Not necessarily… They are both exactly the same. It shouldn’t matter too much but it would be good for you to try both to see which you prefer. Maybe practice acoustic a little bit first until you have the basics (eg chords, fingering, picking etc) which will make electric easier to play and possibly a more enjoyable experience as well. Good luck :)
